You can help protect and maintain the Platte River by becoming informed about the habitat and its wildlife and by participating in any of the Trust’s programs:

  • Subscribe to The Braided River—The Trust’s newsletter highlights the natural history of the Platte, habitat restoration methods, research on the fauna and flora of the area, and the Trust's other activities. To subscribe, send your name and address to us (complete the on-line form or send postal mail to: Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust, Inc. Attn: The Braided River, 6611 W Whooping Crane Dr, Wood River NE 68883). There is no charge for a subscription (contributions in any amount are greatly appreciated and are used to defray publication costs and to help with habitat protection).

  • Contribute—The Trust is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are fully tax-deductible and are used to fund the Trust's land acquisition, habitat restoration, and habitat maintenance activities. We appreciate, very much, this public support for our conservation efforts.

  • Adopt an Acre—The Trust provides special recognition for our most generous supporters. Each contributor of $500 or more receives an honorary certificate for his or her "adopted" acre. All contributions are used to fund the Trust's land acquisition, habitat restoration, and habitat maintenance activities.

  • Volunteer—The Trust provides opportunities for volunteers to help with habitat protection and research activities. Volunteers can participate in bird banding, winter bird surveys, seed collecting, planting prairie and wet meadow restorations, photography, crane surveys, whooping crane monitoring, butterfly surveys, prairie garden plantings, habitat maintenance, and other activities. We appreciate the help!
